Are you feeling a little down while you are social distancing? It is normal to feel this way because all forms of human contact have been restricted. We thrive off human contact. My daughter and I find that being socially distanced can potentially hurt our business. We have not been able to have in-home boutique hours because of the rules we must have to socially distance. But… wait! I can’t have girl time and give out free hugs during open hours, but what can we do?

We went back to ground zero – what is the special sauce that compels people to support our business? Year after year, our customers have voted for us to be the Best of the Best Among Women’s Clothing stores. Why? It is because we have an epic inventory and give “Rockstar” customer service? May be, but we found time and time again from the customers themselves is that they love our authenticity. The fact that we will tell them the truth about how they look in a style that they try on, and we point out what makes them look like a Rockstar! May be, but I think more… it is because we listen, we pay attention to details, and we care. Yep, all of our customers are treated like extended family members. We show them that they matter. So how can we do that when we are not in-person?

Well, we have always been active on social media, but we are eradicating the transactional experience into a personal one. First off, we started social interaction chats, using ZOOM, where we check in with one another, talk about positive things and we share ideas of how to spend the day, whether it be a recipe, or a game to be played with the littles. Yep, back to the basics. We are genuinely have chats like you do when you visit someone on their front porch. Yes, we may be sipping lemonade or coffee, but we talk about the things that are important to them. Why? Because we love them. We passionately are concerned about them and they know we have their back. By introducing the online daily chats, we were able for the first time ever to hit our monthly goal 100% online!

You see, we have been in business for 3.5 years and have done fundraisers and drives for various causes and we have a track record of who we are and how we are in our community at large . In fact, it is the community we have attracted and the beautifully hearted and spirited ladies that make our Community special and it works! In fact, we are in awe of the hearts and kindness in our group. You see, we are often asked if they can “pay” someone else’s invoice that is having a hard time or can they anonymously “buy” some clothing for a lady going through a hard time. This is happening right now!

So in the throes of such worry and impending health crises, our community continues to thrive and grow. We get so many questions about how we do it, so here are some tips that can help you during this difficult time, and remember we are all in this together so focus on what you can change, not on what you can’t do.

In the last recession we had, direct sales consultants nearly doubled their sales and created yet a bigger gap from their competition by choosing to do the following:

(1) “Make hay while the sun is shining.” Think of ways you can attract people to your FB group. Christina Rowe’s Groups Success Formula is a great class to take. You could take it and master it before the quarantine is lifted!!!

(2) “Keep the focus on your customer, not the transaction.” Your customer buys your brand, not the product or service your sell. The more vulnerable you become, the more they like you and want to support your business.

(3) “Find unique ways to enlist the help of your customers to grow your group.” Word of mouth is FREE and the more they share, the more likely people will become interested in what you do.

(4) “Involve your family in what you do and let your customers see it.” This helps make you relatable and likable.

(5) “Learn (within reason), the things you are most weak in.” Being a learn-it-all can hurt you if you are one to be easily overwhelmed. If you have not mastered FB, and this is the tool you want to use for your business, then find two or three classes (not every class offered by a FB sponsored ad!) to take and become a “master” of that content. If you have teammates, share the knowledge with them. The more you share and practice, the more value you will be able to apply to your own experience.

Many business owners may be overwhelmed at declining sales and tend to be concerned with transactions and revenue goals. If you keep the focus on the most important thing– your customers, and goal-hitting will not be a concern.
