I am in business with my daughter!
After 3 years and 4 months of working together, these are some observations:
- The distinction between mom and business partner is very difficult to manage. We see each other all day everyday and sometimes these roles are confused and it makes things fun and interesting to say the least!
- There is no need to build trust or worry about establishing a culture because we can rely on the relationships built over a lifetime. No toxicity in the workplace!!!
- Time management and the balance of family is much easier. I am very involved in all parts of the family, not jetting off on a lengthy business trip. We work out of my home. No more 60 to 80 hour work weeks!!!
- My customers call me Momma Donna because about half of them are my daughter’s friends who grew up with her and went to school. My leadership skills and building others up (women’s empowerment) is at play during Girl Time. My daughter and I have made about 6,000 new friends and about 25% are local!!! Whether they are local or not, we spend lots of time on the phone getting to know our clients. These ladies have went the extra mile to share their experiences with us: Angela E, Susan H, Kendra H, Jennifer B, Shawna S and Ariel P.
- I am growing in ways I never imagined. Our customers have asked me to lead a Bible study in a special community I have built and I have shared personal stories of my weight loss and struggles as a mom, business owner, etc. I even did my first podcast! Kirsten and I also did our first music parody!!! Kirsten and I are also building the retailer community up teaching them about social media developments to help build their businesses!
- Through our business we are blessing our community with fundraising. Many organizations we have helped, and we have also taken up drives to benefit fire and hurricane victims, foster kids and missions in the community.
My conclusion is that life cannot be any better. I have a loving community and family and we are richly blessed with time and opportunities to be with family. Much better than I ever had in CorporateAmerica. Would not trade it for the world! In fact, we believe it would be an injustice to not share our journey with this business and we are happy to share it with anyone who believes they need to “own” their time, enjoy the family and be able to pay some bills in the process. We are planning to share our journey on soon, so please plan to join us.
Call me crazy, but I am having the time of my life!!!
